Very happy with a lot of the stuff that has been going on. I went to the Apple Store today to trick out my pretty new Powerbook with a USB/Firewire hub and a LaCie external hard drive. Now I am ready for the new venture I will be undertaking.

I know that you've all been wondering, but I've been here. I am enthralled with OPML, especially because I don't understand any of the back end stuff.
Meanwhile, I am working on my audio quality for my podcast. This is harder than anything I have done on the computer before.

I have been trying everything to get my PC to allow me to continue my OPML blog to no avail. I feel sorry for myself, which is such a waste of time. My broadband works great, but I can't get onto/into anything that has to do with hosts.opml.org or blogs.opml.org. Even worse, iTunes won't let me download Morning Coffee Notes. Yeeeesh.
Of course, I have a few thousand dollar workaround. I am starting a new OPML blog on my Powerbook, and if anyone has a way to help me fix my time outs to 70.85.10.34 and .36 let me know. Bye!

I'm Not Such a Geek!

So I was all kinds of expansive and grandiose about having figured out how to use the OPML editor to create a blog, when all of a sudden I can't get into blogs.opml.org! I cannot figure out what is going on. I get a 11001 error, which means my computer can't find the host, and now I am out in the cold. (Insert a big unhappy face here.) My only recompense is that I have a Powerbook!!!! Yaay, so I can download the MAC version which is getting set to launch. This is better in a way, because my new Apple is so much more portable than my notebook PC which weighs a ton, and has finicky to non-extistent WIFI. Fran plans and Dave Winer laughs. Ta-ta.

Having a hard time putting this week's podcast together. I am working on a contest and I am going to have to think about how to tie together the loose ends of the week of recording. It's been an interesting week, but nothing to do with OT.
Here's a picture of my friend John in Baghdad. He likes it there, but I don't like that he is there. I feel scared for soldiers.
Disjointed and disorganized tonight. However, I feel good about getting my broadband up and running again. OK, so don't read this. I'm narcissistic enough to know I do it for me anyway.

David Winer, David Winer, my G-d, David Winer!!! Ahem, you do remember about my "crush" on Dave Winer? I went to the OPML meet up in the greatest city in the world. Not too many women, at all, but I followed almost everything that went on, except for the isomorphic guy. Almost everybody was nice and smart, and it was just about the greatest geekfest I have ever witnessed.
I won't write much more, because I am sure there will me a Morning Coffee Notes on the talk in short order. Safe trip to Boston, Dave.

My Five Minutes of Fame

My podcast promo was played on Geek News Central today!!! Thanks, Todd Cochrance, the Geek. My bandwidth doesn't seem to have suffered as of yet.
I just cannot get over the kindness of podcasters, and the sense of community that exists between them. So far, the folks from Techpodcasts have been gentle, knowledgeable and helpful beyond all reason.
Better yet, a long lost Font friend from the alt.binaries.fonts group, who lives in London, found me because of the iTunes listing, and e-mailed me. How cool is that?
My artwork still does not accompany my podcast listing, but I will not give up. I have to continue to work on my presentation submission for the OT conference next year. The technology changes with every second, so it's a moving target. I do not think my chances are too substantial, but I am throwing everything at the wall. Thanks Franklin McMahon. Your positive thinking is sublime. Check out his podcast, which is an occupational therapist's dream. He can always be counted upon to talk about the benefit of "doing" and moving forward. Hooray for you Franklin.
Last, I am planning to go to Dave Winer's meet up next Tuesday. Imagine, a geekfest, a chance to learn about OPML from its creator, and it's on the only night I ever have free.

What a lovely way to spend the holiday. We spent the afternoon at Sagamore Hill, the home of Theodore Roosevelt on Long Island, a scant five minutes from where I live. We saw the Rough Riders on horseback, heard some march music from the Sagamore Hill Band-I can tolerate this about two times a year-and heard Jim Foote, our local Teddy Roosevelt. One of the quotes he shouted out in his booming "Teddy" voice:
Far and away the best prize life has to offer is the chance to work hard a work worth doing.
Nice.
Now le'ts get out of Iraq, bring home the soldiers, and get a president with some compassion. Teddy Roosevelt was like that. Huzzah!

Yesterday Was My Birthday and I Was Naughty

Ahem, I didn't get the Powerbook I was dreaming about, but I did go to the Apple Store, where I put my Home Page and Podcast on all of their computers. The place was packed, but no one seemed to mind me doing it.
My Podcast now appears on iTunes, both as a link, and on the listing of Health Podcasts. I still haven't figured out how to get my image (see below) on the listing. However, every time that I have posted about something here, it has turned around in a short period of time.
After the art work I begin to write up the proposal to talk about this at my next professional conference.
At the risk of becoming the Todd Cochrane fan club president, I must say that I just ordered his new book from Amazon, and will use it as a reference for putting together the presentation. Nothing warms the heart of a proposal reviewer like lots of references. Bye!

Scared to Check in at iTunes

Well, it's been a while since I checked the iTunes Podcasts to see if my feed has finally been added to the line up. I am not in the mood to do so, because it's my birthday tomorrow, and I like birthdays. I don't want to dampen things by being disappointed.
When I was in grad school one of my professors told me that getting a PhD was a snap, provided I had one thing. What was that thing? Persistence. I have persisted, and I understand that persistence will win the day. I will get my podcast up and streaming. I will get that libsyn account, and I will record my new podcast on self-mutilation. Now that's a bizarre affirmation.

Stop the presses!!! My podcast is up on iTunes.

I tried all day persistently to have iTunes accept my RSS feed for my podcast, to no avail. Cryptic error messages, having nothing to do with the parsing of the feed, were sent repeatedly. I went on the Yahoo Podcast Group and then I wrote to the ever wonderful Todd Cochrane of Geek News Central, who wrote back to me! He was as upset as I was.
Feeling sad and a bit left out, I decided to try one more time, and the darned thing worked!!! Of course, the next dilemma will be to see if the podcast shows up on the iTunes. G'night all.

Overwhelmed by the Podcast Tsunami

Here we go...Today Apple launched their new Itunes with support for one-click subscriptions for podcasts. I agree with Todd of Geek News Central. I can't argue with Apple's desire to showcase the popular podcast, but what in the world made me think that this was going to be the great equalizer? I immediately submitted my podcast, but have yet to see it listed in the health section. You can see the cute little icon I made for the show. Am I grandiose? I don't think so.
My belief is that the harder I try, the better my luck will be. So, in spite of daunting odds for the esoterica I offer, I will continue to attempt to promote my profession, and spread the word that you can feel good about what you do, and do good in order to feel better.

Gnomdex 2005 and me

As a geek wannabe, what do Gnomdex's doings have to do with me? It seems as if the big boys are getting on board for RSS and podcasting. Big Boys? Well I mean Microsoft and Apple. In the world of computing they are the BIG BOYS. So, it seems as if getting publicity on such a large scale may possibly be harder than the kind of peace love and happiness that had reigned prior to the dollar signs appearing in the eyes of the business world. Ah well. If I plan to present at the AOTA convention next year, I am going to have to get something going. Publicity is going to have to be directed at the podcast.
Dr. K. spoke to me about the idea of doing something involving me and a nurse at the hospital. He suggested he find an article about mental health with which he disagreed, and we could debate that.
Meanwhile, my hospital is looking for someone to create a web site for them, and I would like to do that, but I'm scared. Stay tuned.

Going for the sexy subjects

I know that I have something here with this podcast: FeelingDoing, and I am trying different ways to get some notice. As of yet, nothing seems to be percolating. I listen to my favorite inspirational podcast, Media Artists Secrets, with Franklin McMahon, and he seems to make it seem simple to be a success. I know that I am not lazy nor unmotivated, nor do I want a ton of money. I have a message. The message is: Your life can be better! Now how do I go about getting others to realize the value?
So, my next podcast is going to be about self-injury, because it is a topic about which I know a lot, and it always get a lot of attention. I can do this, I can let others into the world of mental health and care about it.

I want to thank Rob from Podcast411 for the gmail account, and all the podcasts I listened to that helped me to work through the technicalities.
It was a view source on one of Wave Diner's many web sites that finally helped me to see how to create an RSS feed.

Hooray! I finally uploaded my podcast site to the new server domain. I am now officially to be found here: http://www.feelingdoing.com I am so ready to start doing some more things. I have one more podcast ready to roll, and I finished the promo, which I will send to Adam Curry. I think I can keep this going. I do not want to be a pod fadder-a term I heard used to describe someone who makes a few podcasts, and then disappears because there is NO MORE CONTENT. Boy, do I have content. Every day at work I get more and more content. I'm as smart as Dave Winer in my niche of the world.

Cheap gifts

We're sitting around at lunch today, talking about the cheapest gifts we've ever received. The social worker talks about her brother and new sister-in-law giving their mother a cheezy costume jewelry choker, just a little shy of the circumference of her neck. And this, for the mother's seventieth birthday.
When it breaks on the way to the birthday celebration, the sister-in-law is livid. She believes the mother is hiding the necklace because she doesn't like it. When she shows the daughter-in-law the broken necklace, the subject is dropped. No "I'll take that back, and get it fixed for you." And the brother and sister-in-law are rich. Oh well.
But wait; there's more...My other co-worker's Orthodox daughter is getting married, and receive a gift for the bride and the groom. The bride was given a stained burnt velvet shawl with fringes. Not so nice, but not horrific. However, the groom received a pair of forest green sequined boxer shorts from Frederick's of Hollywood.
Can you top that?

After a lot of messing around, I finally figured out how to post my blog on my own web space. Whew! Now I can begin to try to keep a blog going.
I have given up on having the MD/psychiatrists at my job participate in this podcast, and I am going to have to go my own way. I know there are depths to plumb here, so I will muddle on. If nothing else, I have learned a litte XML, RSS, and I am starting to explore CSS. This site www.csszengarden.com is the most glorious way of seeing what can be done. Makes my hobbyist graphic artist's heart flutter.
